Further Support To Singapore Business Events Sector To increase the number of business events visitors and their spending, The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has adjusted their marketing strategy in boosting the business events sector.
20% of the total visitor arrivals is related to business events visitors. These visitors doubled the spending of leisure travellers and contributed around 33% of overall tourism receipts. In spite of the falling number in 2015, STB Chief Executive Lionel Yeo is still confident about the prospect of business events in Singapore this year. In fact, he expected that the performance this year would surpass that of 2015.
A series of events for 2016 is secured because of the surging interest from international associations and event organisers. Apart from the 5-year SGD $700 million Tourism Development Fund, STB also implemented the Business Events in Singapore Fund to support the local industry players to provide high-quality MICE events and attract higher-yield visitors.
It has also revealed two new initiatives in helping meeting planners, local operators and associations – to support business development initiatives that are entirely industry-driven and to support local association members to attend relevant global business events prior to bidding for an event.
