Georgios Christou, President of Zappeion Exhibition Halls in Athens, was nominated and elected President of HCCE at the HCCE(Historic Conference Centres of Europe) Annual General Assembly (AGA). Christou (left) is congratulated by former HCCE President Armin Egger and Stuart Forrester Executive Director at the Zappeion Exhibition Halls.
Mr Christou succeeds Mr Armin Egger, CEO and President of Messe Congress Graz, who stepped down from the position of President to be reappointed as a Board Member of HCCE.
With the election of Mr Christou, HCCE continues to attract influential leaders of European MICE venues to lead the association of historical venues. As a former military officer, Mr Christou’s professional background is in high technology security and environmental engineering. His passion for and his activity within the Social Ecology Movement and in the Movement for the Direct Democracy of the citizens, confirms his belief in the idea of European solidarity.
Whilst clearly an unusual background, Mr Christou’s understanding of politics and how to get things done should prove to be a useful skill within the MICE sector.
Mr Christou’s initial efforts will be in the further development of new or returning HCCE venues to expand the associations influence across Europe and reinforce the quality of the HCCE brand.
