MICE Asia Pacific Exhibition 2016 had interviewed Ms. Jing Lagandaon, President of Philippine Association of Convention/Exhibition Organizers and Suppliers, Inc (PACEOS) on her views about the development of MICE industry in Philippine in the next 5 years; suggestions to Philippines event professionals; tips to foreign organizers to enter the Philippines MICE market and her expectations on MICE Asia 2016.

PACEOS was established in 1981 and is composed of the country’s professional event, exhibition, and convention organizers and its suppliers/partners in business, such as venue owners, booth contractors, freight forwarders, hotels, as well as institutions offering allied services, such as travel and tour agencies, airlines, printing, and other related services. The Association’s mission is to play a significant role in developing the Philippines into the leading, top-of-mind destination for MICE. It remains steadfast in its efforts to raise the level of professionalism and operational standards in the industry through different activities, programs and keeping in constant contact with its members.

In 2010, PACEOS together with industry professionals established the Philippine M.I.C.E. Academy, a training institution designed to uphold the highest standards in the M.I.C.E. industry through relevant continuing education programs. The Academy provides industry practitioners better knowledge, updated techniques, and latest trends in various areas pertaining to the M.I.C.E. industry. To strengthen the knowledge bank of the industry, PACEOS has published An Official Guide to Events Planning in the first quarter of 2012 and this guide is available at the local bookstores.

Ms. Lagandaon believed that the MICE industry will continue to be one of the strong driving forces in contributing to the country’s sound economic foundation in Philippine in the next 5 years. “Although there will be a wait and see attitude due to the newly elected government officials who are perceived to have a different way of doing things, the MICE industry in the Philippines will see a number of foreign organizers entering the market. Tourist arrivals will continue to increase in leaps and bounds as the image of the Philippines around the world improve.”

To enhance their competitiveness, Ms. Lagandaon suggested the event professionals in Philippine continue to equip themselves with the latest trends and technology available for the MICE market. “Networking with fellow MICE professionals in the international arena and actively participating in various events and forums relevant to the industry will keep professionals up-to-date and equip them with the right skills to compete in the global market”.

Working with a local organizer will be a better way for the foreign organizers to enter the Philippines market. “Local organizers have an edge over foreign organizers in terms of availing special rates on suppliers, knowledge of the market, having the database of potential exhibitors and visitors to tap, knowledge of government regulations, access to competent and affordable manpower and many more.” Ms Langandaon commented.
Coming to MICE Asia Pacific Exhibition 2016, Ms. Lagandaon expected to update herself with the latest trends in the industry and to apply them in the Philippines. She also look forward to networking with other organizers and suppliers and finding opportunities for collaboration.
